Several chlorinated phenols, present in the environment, are refractive to biodegradation. The focus of this project is to study the degradation rate of these compounds under ultrasounds, 2,4,5-trichlorophenol being the substrate, since it has never been studied under those conditions before. Different parameters influencing its degradation rate under ultrasounds have been studied: temperature, presence of an oxidizing agent and light irradiation. The reactions have been monitored by UV/Vis spectroscopy. Also the degradation products thus obtained have been extracted and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
