| In some underdeveloped countries, the effluent from the textile industries may contain azo-dyes used for the dying process. These toxic compounds are resistant to biodegradation, therefore budget-friendly methods are needed to degrade them before the waste water is released in the environment. A commercially available azo-dye “blue mordant 9” has been used as a model and its degradation under ultrasounds has been studied under different conditions. The reactions have been monitored by recording the ultraviolet/visible spectra and the optimum conditions for the degradation have been found. A continual part of the investigation is to determine the degradation products of the azo-dye. |
